The Think Before Drink project is oriented towards the control of alcohol consumption. We live in a time when it is quite easy to get any kind of alcohol, and this has certainly led to an increase in the number of people suffering from alcoholism. Think Before Drink looks at different target groups – adults and younger people.
Its aim is to find out the reason for the rise in alcohol consumption by focusing on people’s background, social habits, country laws, and so on. In the next couple of paragraphs, we will provide more information about the project funded with support from the European Commission, as well as the partners involved in it.
Think Before Drink Project: All the Information You Need
We will now focus on different countries where the study was conducted. First, we will start with Italy, more precisely with the province of Modena. According to the information presented in the paper, the number of young people who consume alcohol on a regular basis has increased drastically in the last couple of years.
The possible reasons are numerous, but experts believe that the thrill of new emotions, as well as relationship and family problems, play a role. People struggling with such problems can attend various meetings and places where they can talk about their struggles. These include:
- Various alcoholics anonymous groups
- Alcohol rehab centres
- Clubs of alcoholics undergoing treatment
- Children groups
- Family groups
Drug and alcohol use is also on the rise in Romania. One of the best-known non-profit organisations helping people to cope with such problems is Aliat. It was founded in 1993 and has established a partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The reason for this is that the aim of the organisation is not only to cure people but to prevent them from going down this path.
One of the studies conducted in Turkey shows that the number of young criminals is increasing at an alarming rate. The most common reasons for this include alcohol consumption, depression, lack of upbringing, and a negative environment. The Swedish project called BIG was started in 1992 because of the great damage caused in Galve, which cost more than 12 million dollars. BIG organises many events for people suffering from drug and alcohol use.
VAROM is a Lithuanian project whose main goal is to become the biggest sobriety movement in Europe. According to a survey, most people in Lithuania consume alcohol because other people do so, to relax, or because they have a reason to celebrate. The aim of VAROM is to reduce alcohol consumption among young people by showing them that a person does not need alcohol to feel happy.

Final Words
In our opinion, such projects can be incredibly useful, especially for younger people. They deal with important issues, and such writings can definitely influence one’s views. For example, in this work, the author focused on the rise of crime rates in Turkey in one of the sections. From what has been written, we can see that the number of young criminals has increased drastically. The possible reasons for this and the ways to deal with such problems are pieces of important information for everyone.
If we had to draw a conclusion from the Think Before Drink project, we would say that this study shows the need for social, educational, and medical support in cases of drug and alcohol use. Such problems should not be neglected. On the contrary – if young people are educated at a young age about the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption, the likelihood of them going down this path will be reduced to a minimum.
